Buy vs Lease near Columbia, MD
At Sheehy Toyota of Laurel, there is an appreciable selection of cars that you can choose to drive down the Columbia Pike. If you're in need of some assistance with narrowing your options, let us tell you about the two payment routes you're welcome to consider. These choices are buying and leasing, which pose their respective benefits. Afterwards, come to our location to begin your preferred process.
Buying
Also referred to as financing, buying a car essentially means you plan on being the sole owner once it's entirely paid off. This choice allows you to pick between a new or pre-owned Toyota from our lot. After presenting us with a down payment, our skilled financial advisors will secure a loan with our banking connections. That amount will then need to be repaid over the course of four to seven years, depending on how much you can contribute each month. If you'd like to offset that balance, you're welcome to trade in the car you currently own.
Leasing
Sometimes, long-term commitment isn't in the foreseeable future for some. That doesn't mean you'll be forced to stay tethered to a car that might not suit your lifestyle down the line, which is why you can opt out of a financing plan and take part in leasing a new Toyota. When you do this, you'll be on the hook for the depreciation that occurs while you're driving it up and down Patuxent Freeway. That number is determined by an annual mileage limit and your contract length, which is between two and four years. When your agreement reaches its end, you'll have the choice to switch Toyota cars, finance the residual cost of your currently leased vehicle, or close out your term entirely.
Which Is Right for Me?
If you could still use some help in deciding which route works best for your Columbia cruises, we're here to lay out the perks. If your income isn't as high as you'd like it to be, you may want to finance a pre-owned car. That doesn't mean you'll be missing out on quality, because our team thoroughly inspects each model that makes its way to us. If you're keen on short-term flexibility, leasing a brand-new Toyota is a route you won't regret taking. Of course, you're welcome to buy that Camry or Highlander down the line if you find yourself unwilling to let go of it. For additional guidance, reach out to our knowledgeable staff.
How Long Do Leasing and Financing Contracts Last?

“ I had a wonderful experience at Sheehy’s Laurel location! I came in for an early morning oil change and was greeted warmly right away. My attendant, David, was great and gave me a clear timeline for the service. “ Steve Horowitz in the new car sales department is a true class act and real professional all the way! My situation will speak to just how high his character and integrity really are. A few days ago I worked with Steve over the phone to locate a specific 2026 Grand Highlander in a certain color and interior that I had to have. Additionally, I needed a factory OEM tow hitch to be installed. Steve went above and beyond to contact the Toyota manufacturing facility in order to remove a number of pre-ordered options that I didn’t really care for, and furthermore to add the hitch that was essential to me. This took not only an extra step on his part, but also required numerous back and forth communication with him and I to see if it was even at all possible at this stage in production. In order to proceed a small $500 deposit was collected over the phone. The delivery of the vehicle was anticipated for early July. Yesterday morning I received a call from another dealer that I had spoken with late last week regarding the same car. Initially, that Highlander had already been reserved, however, I was notified yesterday that the transaction had fallen through. The difference here was that this dealer had the car on the lot and with everything I needed. Because of a situation that our family was in, with our Acura MDX having mechanical issues, we were planning on using my work sedan for a long family vacation next week. The reality of things was that this wasn’t ideal. As terrible as I felt knowing that I was potentially going to have to back out of the deal with Steve and now proceed with the new option—it just had to be done and was better suited for our family and trip. Last night we brought home that other car and this morning I noticed Steve of the news. I commend Steve for his understanding and professionalism upon learning of our change of plans. Without hesitation he agreed to not only refund the deposit, but genuinely understood our bit of a bind that we were in and held no hard feelings whatsoever. In fact, he fully supported and understood our situation and genuinely wished us well with our new vehicle. In a world where there’s an ever so challenging stigma of car salespeople being downright shady or completely self-serving, I felt the need to really tell Steve’s story here with the hopes that anyone shopping for a new Toyota should feel 100% comfortable knowing that working with Steve will result in the best car buying experience possible! When the time comes for me to replace my sedan, which honestly may be sooner rather than later, I know exactly who I’m calling first for that new or CPO Toyota Rav-4. ”
“ I had an excellent experience working with my car sales representative, Rico Leon. From the moment I walked in, they were knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely focused on helping me find the right vehicle—not just making a sale. They took the time to understand my needs, answered all my questions clearly, and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. I never felt pressured, which I really appreciated. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy and professional car buying experience ”
“ Darrell was great as always. Car ready early and all checked out. ”
“ Good place to go for regular maintenance and parts. Teresa went above and beyond. Even with some initial miscommunications, everything was wrapped up to my standards. ”
“ The person work which mi on servises on monday very good person i give to him five star at the place a d saler person and the department new car especific the man his name is jose i give to him one star an all de seller deparment one star ”
“ David is great always looking out for me and always keeping it real when it comes to the service I need !!! ”
“ Wait times could be a little better and that's only because the associates will let your car just sit after they've completed all the services and I will have to go to the counter to be checked out myself. The last service appointment i went to the counter myself because I saw that my car was sitting in the lot completed. The problem with that was that the young lady who assisted me was at lunch so the person who tried to help me couldn't locate my keys so I had to wait for the other young lady to come back from lunch. That should not be happening ”
“ Eyver Dominguez was very knowledgeable and helpful showing me the features on the RAV 4 plug-in hybrid. He’s an easy-going gentleman so I didn’t feel unduly pressured and yet a he’s an enthusiastic salesperson. ”
